Cadence at The Lakes is excited to announce that we are now the Okanagan's newest community offering Active Adult Living!

What does Active Adult Living mean?  It means each home will have at least one person over the age of 45 and the youngest residents must be over 19; however, it doesn't mean that we don't welcome children of all ages to visit - we love kids!

So why did we make this change?  Because we frequently hear from people visiting our showhome that they've already raised their families and are now ready to move to a neighbourhood with other people in the same stage of life as them.  They want to live near people who are close in age and share similar interests.  They want a quiet yard without any hockey nets, basketball hoops, trampolines, or skateboards.  They want to lounge by the pool with other adults.  They want a place where their grandchildren can come for a visit, and then go home with their parents.  So, in response, we've amended our bylaws and added an age restriction so that we can provide better enjoyment for the entire Cadence community.

Energy Efficiency at Cadence

Cadence at The Lakes is dedicated to providing our customers with environmentally friendly, energy efficient homes that are designed for comfort, yet are easy on the pocket book.  That's why we're proud to announce our involvement with two well-known national energy efficiency initiatives:  Natural Resources Canada's ENERGY STAR^®  Builder Program and BCHydro's Power Smart New Home Program.

As a qualified ENERGY STAR Builder, Cadence has committed to building homes that maximize energy efficiency and promote better overall performance.  In addition to our geothermal ground source heat pumps, we spec the following ENERGY STAR certified products in all of our homes:  refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines, windows, entry doors, sidelights, transoms, sliding glass doors, and compact fluorescent light bulbs, among other things.  According to Natural Resources Canada, "ENERGY STAR qualified new homes are designed to be approximately 25 percent more energy-efficient" and "reduce [greenhouse gas] emissions by approximately three tonnes per year" when compared to similar homes that are built to minimum building code requirements. 

In conjunction with the ENERGY STAR program, Cadence at The Lakes has also enrolled as a BCHydro Power Smart New Home Builder.  In order to qualify for the program, homes must be tested by a Certified Energy Advisor and score a rating of 80 or higher (out of 100) on the EnerGuide scale.  The EnerGuide Rating Service was developed by The Office of Energy Efficiency of Natural Resources Canada  and shows a standard measure of a home's energy  performance.   

To conduct the energy audits within our development, Cadence has partnered with Total Home Solutions Inc, an officially licensed home energy evaluator that operates across the country.  To date, our homes at Cadence have scored an average EnerGuide rating of 84.  According to Total Home, "for a brand new house, a rating of 80 or higher is excellent.  Relatively few houses achieve a rating of 80 or higher, and those that do represent the most energy-efficient houses on the market."  As you can see, anyone can claim that a house is energy efficient, but at Cadence, we have the ratings to back our claims up!          

Therefore, as a result of our involvement in both the ENERGY STAR and Power Smart New Homes programs, homeowners at Cadence can expect the following benefits:

Multiple Open House Event at The Lakes - Sat Nov 24

Looking for something fun to do this weekend? Then come on down to The Lakes subdivision and take a tour through one of the many open houses happening within the development. If you haven't had a chance to visit the neighbourhood in a while, this is the perfect opportunity to see what's going on in our community.

The open houses will run from 10am to 3pm on Saturday, November 24th and there will be refreshments on site as well as the Re/Max hot air balloon!

Phase 2 Now Selling!

Although the summer is winding down, the fun hasn't stopped here in Lake Country!  Here are some great upcoming events taking place in our community:

Take a Hike!

One of the many draws to Lake Country, and the Okanagan in general, is the abundance of wonderful recreational activities available to residents year-round.  Of course the area is famous for its skiing in the winter, but the Okanagan also has a reputation for being one of the hottest summer vacation destinations in the country!  Between the many lakes, golf courses, and wineries, there's plenty to keep yourself busy with in the warmer months.  But if you're looking for some regular activity right outside of your own front door, then Cadence at The Lakes is the place to be, with access to excellent hiking and walking trails right within The Lakes development.

Walk Around Lake Country, a volunteer group dedicated to establishing and maintaining hiking and walking trails throughout the community, has recently completed a cairn marker at what they're calling "The Grand Overlook," part of the Spion Kopje Mountain Trails network.  From this newest vantage point, hikers will be rewarded with stunning views of the entire Okanagan Valley, including Okanagan Lake, Wood Lake, Duck Lake, Lake Country's orchards and vinyards, plus the surrounding mountain ranges.  Residents of Cadence will find easy access to these trails at the southern trail head located at The Lakes' reservoir area.  Please see #13 on the left-hand side of the following map for further details:

Spring Parade of Homes a Smashing Success

We just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for helping to make our recent Spring Parade of Homes at The Lakes event a huge success. We had a fabulous day full of fun and excitement, smiles all around, and some beautiful sunshine to top everything off! The Lakes was extremely busy all day, with hundreds of people passing through the community; many who were previous visitors coming back for a second look, and now some who will be calling Cadence home.

Mr Brian Williams was the lucky winner of our grand prize draw at the event: a complete set of Taylormade golf clubs valued at over $2,500.  Here he is picking up his spoils from Bill at our Show Home.  Congratulations Brian - we hope you enjoy them!

In addition to all the activity taking place at our event, Bill and Eric still managed to find the time to write two deals that day. And the fun didn't stop there; since the Spring Parade of Homes we have signed another two deals at Cadence; one of which was for our lovely pre-built Fresco on Lot 7. This means we now have three homes under construction with more people telling us they're anxious to move forward every day.  So you better hurry if there's a particular lot you had in mind; the remaining lots in Phase 1 are selling quickly!
